Assisted Living

The Assisted Living Area at Oak Crest Retirement Center is dedicated to providing residents with the support they need to master their daily lives. It is divided into three levels in order to meet the different needs of the residents: Many residents do not need much assistance; while others – especially those suffering from dementia – require constant care services. When we visited the Assisted Living Area for the first time, we were all paired with one of the residents: Ben with Mr. Summers, Meike with Mrs. Bosley, and Stephanie with Mrs. Annbinder and Mrs. Henning. Together with the residents, we decided on the novels we wanted to read together. It turned out that the residents we worked with all had a particularly strong interest in historical fiction. Therefore, we chose the novels accordingly. After we had decided on the novels, we came to Oak Crest every Friday. While we were reading to and with the residents, we got to know them better and learned about their personal perspectives on literature.
