Nikola Tesla
Title
Nikola Tesla
Description
This article by Thomas Martin from the February 1894 publication of The Century focuses on Nikola Tesla. Tesla is often overshadowed by Thomas Edison for their respective works on electricity. However, Edison essentially cheated Tesla out of credit and payment for some of his inventions. Even so Tesla's inventions are the ones that are really more influential today, despite all the credit that seems to go to Edison. Primarily it is the use of Tesla's alternating current that build the electrical infrastructure of today by allowing the transmission of power over great distances and through much smaller wires. Had Edison's direct current been used a city would require a power station every few city blocks, and each small town would need its own. The article introduces Tesla and gives a description of his accomplishments so far, then going on to give a short summary of his life and research.
